- Mohieldin: North-West Suez Gulf Economic Zone, Red Sea Ports and Infrastructure are Most Important Egyptian Projects in which China Could Increase Investments
Mahmoud Mohieldin, Minister of Investment, and his accompanying delegation continued their meetings with Chinese officials during their current visit to China. Mohieldin has visited Guiyang province and attended a forum on opportunities of trade and investment in Egypt. The meeting was also attended by the deputy chairman of the province's trade department.
The Egyptian delegation has visited Hangzhou Hi-Tech Industry and listened to a presentation on the most important technological industries in the city. The delegation held talks on mutual cooperation, especially in communications and information technology. Representatives of the Egyptian Communications and Information Technology Ministry reported on the Egyptian communication sector and the recent developments it witnessed, in addition to cooperation with the Chinese side.
In his speech before the forum, Mohieldin said the Egyptian delegation came to China to promote the opportunities of investment in Egypt and reflect the good ties between the two countries. Such good ties should be used to improve bilateral investment and economic relations.
The North-West Suez Gulf Economic Zone, infrastructure in Upper Egypt and the development of the Red Sea ports are among the most important fields in which China could increase its investments, he added.
Mohieldin has also referred to China's successful experiment in facing challenges throughout the past thirty years. China has relied on five elements; applying rules and laws to all people without any discrimination, depending on the Open Market rules, respecting trade principles and workers' rights, investing in people through education, training, health care, economic stability and continued growth, in addition to engaging in the world economy and exporting of knowledge.
Egypt also seeks to increase the number of its companies in China. Misr Insurance held talks with the Chinese side on the possibility of taking part in the field of business insurance to make use of the great trade exchange between Egypt and China, some $6200 million. Misr Insurance also plans to invade the field of insurance on Chinese companies operating in Egypt.
Commenting on Doing Business report, which ranked Egypt 106th among the top 183 reformers worldwide, Mohieldin said efforts will continue to improve the investment climate in Egypt during the coming period. Egypt succeeded, for the fourth time in a row, to be among the top 10 reformers worldwide. A report would be filed to Ahmed Nazif, Prime Minister, on investment indicators that need improvement.
