The Minister of Investment, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, held a meeting with the Minister of Transportation, Alaa Fahmi and Port Said Governor, Mustafa Abdel Latif, for an update on the project of setting up a tunnel beneath the Suez Canal in Port Said.

Dr. Mohieldin highlighted the significance of the project at the beginning of the meeting.

Sponsored by President Mubarak, the project was launched by the President during his visit to Port Said late last December. It is expected to reap great economic and development benefits.

Minister Alaa Fahmi stated that many institutions are interested in implementing the project. Bodies concerned have been charged with preparing the project's specifications and time schedule.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the General Authority for Investment (GAFI), the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), the Ministries of Defense and Electricity and Energy, the National Center for Planning State Land Uses (NCPSLU), the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), the Urban Planning & Development Authority and the General Authority for Roads & Bridges.
